Yankees vs. Pirates In Game Notes

PITCHING

  • The Other New York Ace that was on the mound today did not fare well either, CC Sabathia left after throwing 2.1 innings and allowing 5 runs all being earned, and gave up 1 home run to Garrett Jones of the Pirates.
  • Dustin Mosley who the Yankees picked up about 3-4 weeks ago pitched very nicely today in relief of Sabathia as he threw 1.2 innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 1 batter as well.
OFFENSE

  • After sitting out the past few days with back trouble, Nick Johnson returned to the lineup and hit 2 home runs in back to back innings both off Charlie Morton.
  • Curtis Granderson picked up his first Yankee Hit as he hit a triple off of DJ Carrasco.
  • Jorge Posada went 2 for 2 with an RBI.

THEY ARE CURRENTLY IN THE 7TH INNING, UPDATES TO COME ON TODAYS GAME!

A-Rod was treated by Canadian Doctor

Canadian Doctor Anthony Galea, who was arrested in February for distributing HGH and other Performance Enhancing Drugs to professional athletes has recently come out and said that he treated Yankees 3rd Basemen Alex Rodriguez following his hip surgery last March. Galea said that he prescribed Anti-Inflammatories. Galea said that he has NEVER given HGH to A-Rod none the less any professional athletes. Other notable athletes who have been linked to Galea; Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, and Tiger Woods.
I think that this is a bad situation for A-Rod and i do not believe this is going away any time soon, as he should be expecting questions throughout the rest of Camp and possibly into the season.

Omir Santos drawing Interest

After hitting an Inside the Park Grand Slam yesterday at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie Omir Santos who is one of 6 catchers fighting for a spot on the 25 Man Roster has been drawing Interest from several teams around the Majors, including the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers according to multiple major league sources.
As much as I like Omir, it will be good for him to leave as Barajas and Blanco are virtually the two catchers on the Major League club followed by Thole and Coste in Triple AAA.

Things worth noting from Today's 11-2 Mets Win

PITCHING
  • John Maine Made his return striking out 4 in 1.2 innings and allowing 1 earned run.
  • Jenrry Mejia made his second relief outing of the Spring and was brilliant. Striking out 1 over 3 innings of work allowing 2 hits but no runs.
  • R.A Dickey looked much better this time around out of the pen pitching 2.1 innings, walking 1, striking out 1 and giving up no runs.
  • Ryota Igarashi looked much more human as he allowed 1 run, 2 hits, but did strike out one batter.
OFFENSE

  • Fernando Martinez continued his excellent display of offense in the Spring as he went 2-5 with 1 RBI pushing his Spring total up to 5.
  • Ike Davis had another incredible day at the plate as he had 2 hits in 3 at bats with 2 RBIS pushing his Spring total to 8 and his average now stands at .588.
  • Rod Barajas hit his first Mets home run in the 6th off former Mets Scott Strickland.
  • What a day for Chris Carter who the Mets acquired in the Billy Wagner trade as he hit 2 homeruns in the same inning, his first 2 of Spring Training.
METS RECORD NOW 6-2

Can Davis & Mejia make the team out of camp?

These two kids are the most hyped up prospects the Mets have had since Scott Kazmir and Fernando Martinez during his early goings. First Basemen Ike Davis and Pitcher Jenrry Mejia. They both got the invite to come compete for a spot on the Opening Day 25 man roster and boy are they making the best of their opportunities. Both have been lights out this preseason. Ike Davis who is 22 years old has been a huge bright spot in camp this season. In 5 games thus far he has a batting average of .538, in 13 at bats he has 7 hits, he also has hit a grand slam and 6 RBIS. Davis who was drafted in '08 from Arizona State, has pitching experience and can also played right field as he did for the USA National team last summer. Competing with Daniel Murphy, and Mike Jacobs for the starting first base job, Ike knows it can be tough but has said his father Ron Davis who is a former major league pitcher, and pitched with the Yankees, gave him tips on how to handle New York in general, from the playing standpoint to the Media. Competing with those two players mentioned is and will continue being beyond hard, since we know Jerry Manuel has said Murphy will be there Opening Day unless a physical injury takes place. Jerry has acknowledged that if Davis and Mejia continue to dominate in the spring he has to consider them for roster spots. If i was making the decision i would have to think really hard, because you only drafted Davis 2 years ago and you do not want to rush a star in the making, but on the other hand he looks so ready and could definitely make an impact with the club.I came across a post written by Toby Hyde of metsminorleagueblog.com as he compared Ryan Braun's Minor League numbers and Ike's Minor League numbers and they truly are virtually the same. This will be a great battle down to the wire, all i say is do not rush him but if the Mets organization truly believes they have a READY star on their hands bring him up now, because he can be another big bat in this lineup.
Jenrry Mejia is a 20 year old fireballer who was signed by the Mets out of a Dominican Republic tryout when he was 16 is truly talented and is excelling in Spring Training. Mejia is ranked the 56th best prospect in Baseball according to Baseball America. Mejia who is known to regualrly throw in the mid 90's can be quite erratic at times though. Jerry Manuel has said that since Kelvim Escobar will not be on the Opening Day 25 man roster due to an injury, Mejia has to be considered for a setup job. Mejia who was projected a starter up in till this year has been compared to Mariano Rivera, by the movement on his ball and how nice his fastballs move. He is to be looked at as a future closer.Jenrry pitched during the Mets 4-3 loss to the Marlins on Friday as he pitched 2.1 innings striking out four swinging and retiring each other the other 3.
I think i am a little more hesitant to bring Mejia up rather than Davis. I think that because Mejia just turned 20 in October and really has shown signs that he can be as Wild as Oliver Perez on some occasions, and i just don't think bringing him up to get beat around a little bit will be good for him, but who knows i haven't seen him in person. If he really is as good as people are saying and are comparing him to Mariano Rivera but also flashes of Oliver Perez at the same time i would hold back unless of an emergency, or an injury. None the less we will probably see him in the month of September and most likely next season.

Reyes out withThyroid Imbalance

The Mets have decided to send Jose Reyes back to New York to undergo more tests after doctors in Florida revealed he had a Thyroid Imbalance. Reyes who was scratched from the lineup today against the Marlins for the 2nd consecutive game spoke to reporters this morning and said "We're not talking about my leg, nothing like that, we're talking about my health," he said, "so I have to be concerned about it." The Mets expect a result from the test in New York within the next 48 hours.
To me i am scared because we saw what the team is without Reyes and Beltran, so it scares me it could happen again. When i read the initial report that he was scratched from the lineup again I was scared it was his leg, but thank god it is not, and Jose Please Get Better soon, as you are such a vital peace of this team.
