In Game Notes; Yankees vs Rays

UPDATE
This Game has just went final; the Yankees have defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by the Final Score of 6 to 4. The Winning Pitcher is David Robertson while the loser being Jeff Bennett for the Rays. The Save went to former Angel Dustin Moseley for the Yankees.

OFFENSE

• Colin Curtis who ended the first Spring Training Game with a Home Run his is 2nd homerun this spring.

• Derek Jeter Got it going as he went 2 for 3 tonight with 2 RBI

• Curtis Granderson continued his awful Spring Training Play, another 0 for 3 game.

PITCHING

• Javier Vazquez started and pitched well, he went 3.0 innings allowing 1 run, 1 hits, 2 walks, but continued to strike batters out as he struck out 3.

• Boone Logan who is competing with Royce Ring for the 2nd lefty job in the Pen, pitched to one batter and struck out the solo batter he faced.

• Chan Ho Park made his debut with the Bombers today and he threw 1 scoreless inning, and striking out 1.

Mets to play in Puerto Rico

MLB has announced that a series that was scheduled to take place at Dolphin Stadium in Florida between the Mets and Marlins during July 28th through the 30th has been switched to where the teams will compete in Puerto Rico at Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

Christian Guzman Mets Bound?

People are getting the idea the Mets are looking outide of the organization for a shortstop replacement until Jose Reyes. According to multiple sources, the Mets have talked about possibly acquiring Nationals Shortstop Christian Guzman, who last season with the Nats hit .284 with 6 homeruns and 52 RBIS. Guzman has not his under .300 since 2005.
If these reports are true, i think the Mets know something about Reyes condition that we do not if they are looking to acquire a former all star who is still in his prime and hitting .280 or above. I also suspect the Mets don't believe Ruben Tehada is ready, and do not want Alex Cora killing him self by playing every day. I am worried about Reyes now though, i think we might be hearing something soon because something is very fishy.

Hisanori Takahashi has a chance as 2nd lefty in pen

After rumors this past March about the Mets interested in Lefties Ron Mahay, and Joe Beimel the Mets look pretty set with what they have. The 34 year old Japanese Rookie Hisanori Takahashi, has been lights out this spring, as he is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, and has not walked one batter, while striking out 9 batters in 6 innings of work. Takahashi looks to be someone the Mets have not had since about 2006 in Darren Oliver in a lefty long relief man.

I think Hisanori looks more like a starter just they way he pitches and his screwball is crazy. But he could supply another long relief man in the Pen along with another lefty. The only thing is Takahashi does not look like a situational lefty which is something the Mets need to think about.

Pagan shows why he is the guy to beat this spring

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 this afternoon, in dramatic fashion. It was one out in the 9th inning at Tradition Field, when outfielder Angel Pagan sent everyone home packing with a two run walk off homer off pitcher Pete Parise. Angel is certainly making a statement to Jerry Manual why, himself and not veteran Gary Matthews jr should not. Francisco Rodriguez made his first appearance of the spring, throwing seven pitches and retiring the side in order. 2 good things come out of Mets win today, as they reach 500 for the spring at a record of 7-7. The Mets are off. They are back in action against the Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla., on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. Mike Pelfrey is to start for the Mets, John Lackey for the Red Sox.

Is the Yankees lineup facing new change?

The answer is yes, and the main attraction to manager Joe Girardi, is young up rising star 2nd basemen Robinson Cano. He reveled that Cano will start the season in Boston batting in the 5th hole. Girardi also hinted at a lineup that would feature Derek Jeter hitting lead off, followed by Nick Johnson, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, Cano, Jorge Posada, Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner. I Like what Joe is doing with the lineup, with the loss of outfielder Johnny Damon he places OBP king Nick Johnson in the 2 hole, who is having a tremendous spring. Switching Cano and Granderson is interesting, taking a strikeout prone hitter in Granderson out of the 5th spot and placing a Contact hitter in Cano in, does make sense. And one last note, Girardi did mention that he fully expects Brett Gardner to be the starting left fielder, Easter Sunday in Boston. It looks like Randy Winn, Marcus Thames, and Greg Golson will be in a heated competition the rest of this spring for back up jobs.
