Gary Matthews JR Starting Center Fielder

According to Kevin Burkhardt of SNY.TV, Jerry Manuel has named Gary Matthews JR. the starting center fielder over Angel Pagan. Matthews will start in centerfield tomorrow and hit sixth. This is the lineup for tomorrows game:

1) Alex Cora
2) Luis Castillo
3) David Wright
4) Mike Jacobs
5) Jason Bay
6) Gary Matthews JR
7) Jeff Francoeur
8) Rod Barajas
9) Johan Santana

Now lets compare this lineup to the Mets Opening Day order last year against the Reds:

1) Jose Reyes
2) Daniel Murphy
3) David Wright
4) Carlos Delgado
5) Carlos Beltran
6) Ryan Church
7) Brian Schneider
8) Luis Castillo
9) Johan Santana

WOW, only 3 players in the lineup this year were in the lineup last year( Wright, Castillo, Santana ) But that is not always a bad thing. I like the order going into tomorrow just wish Reyes, and Beltran could play; and i guess Murphy. My only question is why is Alex Cora batting lead off when Luis Castillo has had an amazing on base percentage for the past few seasons.

Posada,Johnson, & Cervelli Day-To-Day

With 2 days to go until the start of the Yankees season, the health of the number 1 & 2 yankees catchers are in question as Jorge Posada sat out for the 2nd consecutive game today witha stiff neck, while back up catcher Francisco Cervelli has be diagnosed with a grade 1 strain in his hamstring. Now the projected Opening Day DH, injury-written Nick Johnson fouled a ball off his right knee, which forced him to leave the game.
This is not a great sign going into the season, but lets just be thankful it is not Texiera, Jeter, or A-Rod.

Something is up with John Maine

Through the first 3 innings of the game today, i feel there is something wrong with John Maine, to me when i see him he looks likes hes always rubbing his elbow, and it looks like hes having a hard time breathing. We will see hope its nothing serious.

Hughes to start season in Minors

According to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has decided to keep Phil Hughes in Tampa until April 15th when he will make his first start of the season, and at that point the other four starters will have two starts already under their belts. According to Feinsand, Hughes will be throwing extended Spring Training games. The Yankees have 3 off days during the course of the first nine days of the season.
I like the idea, but i just don't like the idea of jerking with him like they did with Joba last year.

There are 3 days until the Yankees are in Boston to face the Red Sox on Easter Night, April 4th at 8:05 PM
