After a 2009 campaign riddled with injuries, the Mets thought they would enter 2010 on a clean slate. Carlos Beltran had knee surgery in January, and now newcomer Kelvim Escobar who many predicted would be setting K-Rod up will likely start the season on the 15 day DL, due to shoulder wekaness, manager Jerry Manuel has said.
To me the Mets counted on Escobar way to much then they should have, after missing virtually all of the 2009 season and parts of the past few seasons, they penciled him in to setup K-Rod at the back of the bullpen, and now will have to look at other options. Ryota Igarashi is the frontrunner to obtain the services of the Setup man at least until Escobar is able to return.
He has not yet thrown on a mound this spring training.
