Pitching:

Andy Pettitte limited the Angels to five hits over six scoreless innings, walking three and striking out six in a 100-pitch effort, earning his first win of the season. Chan Ho Park took over, throwing 2 strong innings, only giving up a solo homer to firstbasemen Kendry Moralas. Joe Girardi then called on David Robertson to close the game out, who was not able to do that. After 2 singles and a bunt base hit Bobby Abreu stepped up to the plate lunching Robertson's breaking ball into the right field porch for a grand slam. Clinching his teeth, the skipper then called on the sandman, Mariano Rivera who shut the door on the Angels.


Offense:


Nick Johnson slugged his first home run, a first-inning shot to right field off Angels starter Ervin Santana. After the captain Derek Jeter belted a solo shot in the third and contributed a bases loaded single off Santana's leg in the fourth, bringing home Robinson Cano. The Yankees added to their lead int the bottom of the eighth inning, thanks to an RBI double from Jorge Posada and a RBI single by new Yankee Curtis Granderson.
