PHI-- Kyle Kendrick
5.0 IP, 5 H, 4 Earned Runs, 1 Walk, 3 K, 3 HR Allowed

Pitching:
Well if you look at the pitching line for Niese tonight, it pretty much said Niese was INCREDIBLE! Not only did he shut down a major league lineup for 7 innings while only walking 1 and striking out 7, but it was the Phillies he shut down a lineup with names such as Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, and Jayson Werth. Everything was working for Niese tonight, he was moving fast and had his curveball working well. He got in to jams in 1 or 2 innings but otherwise was superb. Following Niese, Jenrry Mejia was brought on to pitch the 8th and gave up 1 hit but no runs. In the ninth, Manny Acosta took the ball and while walking one and giving up one hit did not give up any runs and kept the winning streak alive for the Mets.

Offense:
The Mets bats came to play today as not only did they score 9 runs but they hit 4 home runs. The top of the 2nd is were they started to pour on as David Wright got the scoring started by hitting a fast ball out beyond center field for his 4th homerun of the season. Two batters later, Jeff Francoeur stepped up and smacked a fastball down and in out of the ball park to give the Mets a quick 3-0 lead going into the 3rd. In the top of the 5th, the Mets hit their third homerun with a solo homerun by Rod Barajas which gave the Mets a 4-1 lead. In the top of the 7th, Rod Barajas continued his stellar night as he stroked an RBI double to right field, which scored Jeff Francoeur and it gave the Mets a 5-1 lead. In the same inning after Jon Niese walked, Angel Pagan hit a two run triple to score Rod Barajas & Jon Niese, and it gave the Mets a 7-1 lead at that point. Two batter later in the same inning with Jose Reyes up he pulls a base hit through the right side of the infield to score Pagan and give the Mets a 8-1 lead. The Mets capped their scoring off tonight with another Rod Barajas home run his second of the night in the 9th inning with led to New York's convincing 9-1 over the Phillies.

Offensive Box Score:

1. CF Angel Pagan, 3-5, 1 RUN, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI(10)
2. 2B Luis Castillo, 0-5
3. SS Jose Reyes, 1-5, 1 RBI(6)
4. LF Jason Bay, 1-5, 1 RUN, 1 2B
5. 3B David Wright, 1-4, 1 RUN, 1 K, 2 RBI(16), 1 HOME RUN(4)
6. 1B Ike Davis, 0-3, 1 Walk
7. RF Jeff Francoeur, 1-2, 2 RUNS, 1 RBI(13), 1 HOME RUN(4)
8. C Rod Barajas, 3-4, 3 RUNS, 1 2B, 3 RBI(11), 2 HOME RUN(5)
9. SP Jon Niese, 0-2, 1 RUN, 1 Walk, 2 K

Game Picture:

Tonight's Game Picture was between two players for the Mets. Jonathon Niese or Rod Barajas. I decided to give it to Jon Niese, because this is a young kid with so much potential but we have only seen glimpses. I am hoping with this step in the right direction that he can become more consistent and shut down batters the way he did today to some of the best in Howard & Utley.

The Mets will play their 2nd game of their 3 game series with the Phillies tomorrow starting at 3:10PM. It is a pitching matchup like no other so you do not want to miss it. Mike Pelfrey(4-0) vs. Roy Halladay(4-1)
