PostGame, Yankees 6 Red Sox 4

New York Yankees(1-1)
Boston Red Sox(1-1)

WP: NYY Alfredo Aceves(1-0)
LP: BOS Hideki Okajima(1-1)

S: NYY Mariano Rivera(1)

Starters:

NYY--
A.J Burnett
5.0 IP, 7 Hits, 4 Runs(3 Earned), 1 Walk, 5 Strikeouts,
1 Homerun Allowed

BOS-- Jon Lester
5.0 IP, 5 Hits, 4 Earned Runs, 3 Walks, 4 Strikeouts

Pitching:
A.J Burnett took the hill for the first time in 2010 & though he gave up 4 runs, looked pretty good. His fastball had excellent velocity topping out at 96 MPH. His curveball looked very good as well, and he worked very well with his catcher Jorge Posada. The problem on Sunday night was being able to get the ball to Mariano Rivera with the lead, but they did that throwing 4 shutout innings out of the bullpen. Alfredo Aceves looked very good out of the bullpen, earning the win as he threw 2 innings of shutout baseball. The 8th inning was a tad interesting though, as Dave Robertson took the ball to begin the inning and was unable to record an out. Girardi then brought on Damaso Marte to get David Ortiz, and he did. After Marte, we saw flashes of the 2007 Joba Chamberlain as he recorded the final 2 outs of the 8th inning by striking out Adrian Beltre & J.D Drew, after then performed the fist punch antic but looked like the old Joba. In the 9th though Mariano Rivera gave up a 1 out double to Marco Scuatro, but then was able to calm down and record the 3 outs necessary to record his 527th career save.

Offense:
In the beginning of the game down a run, Nick Swisher just missed a homerun as he hit a double off the Green Monster in left, which allowed Robinson Cano to score, and put the Yankees on the board. In the top of the 5th, down 3 to 1, the Yankees rallied back to score 3 runs & take the lead. Their first run in the 5th came by Mark Teixeira grounding into a force play with the bases loaded that allowed Curtis Granderson to score. The second run in the 5th which tied up the game came on a Alex Rodriguez RBI double, Derek Jeter then scored. The third and final run of the 5th came on a Sac Fly by Robinson Cano to score Teixeira. The final two runs of the ballgame for the Yankees came on a bases loaded walk, by Nick Johnson which allowed Jorge Posada to score. In the 9th inning up by a run, Robinson Cano stepped up and hit a mammoth homerun off of Scott Atchison which sealed the deal, and gave Rivera another insurance run.

Offensive Box Score:

1. SS Derek Jeter, 1-5, 1 RUN, 1 K
2. DH Nick Johnson, 0-2, 2 Walks, 1 RBI(1)
3. 1B Mark Teixeira, 0-5, 1 RUN, 1 K, 1 RBI(1)
4. 3B Alex Rodriguez, 1-5, 1 K, 1 RBI(1)
5. 2B Robinson Cano, 2-3, 2 RUNS, 1 WALK, 2 RBI(3), 1 HOME RUN(1)
6. C Jorge Posada, 1-4, 1 RUN, 1 K, 1 WALK,
7. RF Nick Swisher, 2-4, 1 K, 1 RBI(1)
8. LF Marcus Thames, 0-1, 1 K, 1 WALK
-- LF Brett Gardner, 1-2
9. CF Curtis Granderson, 1-4, 1 RUN, 1 K

The Yankees will square off for the Opening Series bragging rights, tomorrow night at 7:10 against the Boston Red Sox, as Andy Pettitte will face off against John Lackey, someone who hurt the Yankees during the ALCS last season.
