New York Mets(1-1)
Florida Marlins(1-1)

WP: FLA Leo Nunez(1-0)
LP: NYM Hisanori Takahashi(0-1)
S: FLA Tim Wood(1)

Starters:

NYM--
John Maine
5.0 IP, 8 Hits, 4 Earned Runs, 1 Walk, 3 Strikeouts,
2 Home Runs allowed

FLA-- Ricky Nolasco
6.2 IP, 3 Hits, 3 Earned Runs, 3 Walks, 5 Strikeouts

Pitching:
After an injury written 2009 season for Mets righty John Maine, he made his first start of the 2010 campaign and struggled early on. During the postgame interview, Maine said he was happy with his off speed stuff, which i was as well, his changeup and curveball moved nicely. Maine did struggle though with first pitch strikes which is key for the success of John Maine. Maine did give up two homeruns, one were Hanley Ramirez took a fastball on the outside part of the plate and crushed it into the bullpen. The second homerun came off the bat of Jorge Cantu, and he literally crushed a ball over the big fence in Left. Going into the bullpen, Mets rookie phenom Jenrry Mejia made his debut and struggled big time as he gave up 2 straight hits to start the inning before striking out his first victim of his career as he struck Ricky Nolasco swinging. Mejia left after the sixth and gave up one run. Sean Green followed, and gave up a solo homerun to Dan Uggla which made the score 6-1 Marlins. After Green, Pedro Feliciano threw a shutout inning, followed by a shut out inning by Francisco Rodriguez, and then Hisanori Takahashi made his MLB Debut and gave up the game winning RBI single to Ronny Paulino.

Offense:
This offense did not seem like the same bunch that came out swinging on Opening Day, but they did however fight back and were very resilient. Down 6-1 in the 7th inning, the Mets scored two runs in the bottom half of the 7th, with a Sac Fly by Rod Barajas which allowed Jason Bay to score, and a Luis Castillo bases loaded walk which trimmed the lead down to three. The Mets then tied the ballgame up in the 8th, with Jason Bay reaching first on a bases loaded ground out and a throwing error by Dan Uggla, then a bases loaded walk by Fernando Tatis, then with Alex Cora up, and the bases loaded Marlins pitcher Leo Nunez balked home a run which knotted the game up at 6 a piece. The Mets did really fight back when they looked out of the ball game, but the Marlins poor bullpen did help out with the scoring. They also ran themselves out of an inning, when with the bases loaded and David Wright up in the sixth, a wild pitch was thrown by Jose Veras, Fernando Tatis attempted to score on the wild pitch but was tagged out by the pitcher. Though the Mets did fight back, they should have won this game and the Marlins really gave it to them, the Mets just need timely hits and smart base running which they did not get.

Offensive Box Score:

1. SS Alex Cora, 1-4, 1 RUN
2. 2B Luis Castillo, 0-2, 1 WALK, 2 RBI(2)
3. 3B David Wright, 1-3, 1 RUN, 1 K, 2 Walks
4. 1B Mike Jacobs, 1-5, 2 K
5. LF Jason Bay, 1-3, 2 RUNS, 1 DOUBLE, 2 Walks
6. CF Gary Matthews JR., 0-3, 1 RUN, 1 K, 2 Walks
7. RF Jeff Francoeur, 1-4, 1 RUN, 1 WALK
8. C Rod Barajas, 0-4, 1 RBI(2)
