Phillies 9, Yankees 7
Pitching:
Right-hander A.J. Burnett struggled in the first inning against the Phillies. He allowed four hits, five runs and two walks as Philadelphia took a 5-1 lead. On the other hand Cole Hamels allowed seven runs, 6 earned in 4 innings. The worst starts this spring for both pitchers.
Offense:
Curtis Granderson had an RBI double to put the Yanks on the board. Eduardo Nunez's knocked in two runs in the fourth inning to cut the Phillies lead to 5-4. Mark Teixeira then hit a two-run homer to left-center field to give the New York a 7-5 lead.
Placido Polanco hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Dane Sardinha cleared the bases with a three-run double to give the Phillies a 5-1 lead. Wilson Valdez delivered the two-run walk-off shot to give the Phillies the victory.
The Yankees do not play Tuesday, but they return to action Wednesday, when they host the Nationals at 7:05 p.m. live on MLB.TV. Right-hander Javier Vazquez faces Livan Hernandez.
