Who is Greg Golson?

Once a highly touted prospect in the Phillies organization from 2004-2006, Greg Golson is a strong competitor for the left field job this year with Brett Gardner, Randy Winn, Marcus Thames, and Jamie Hoffman. In 2007, Golson dropped from the 2nd to 10th best prospect in the Phillies organization by Baseball America. He made his debut on September 7, pinch-hitting for catcher Carlos Ruiz. He made several appearances as a late-inning defensive replacement, which was fine with Golson. On November 20, 2008, Golson was traded by the Phillies to the Texas Rangers for John Mayberry, Jr. Phillies general manager Rubén Amaro Jr. called the trade a "'speed-for-power' swap". Greg received one at bat for the Rangers in 2009, A few days after he was designated for assignment, on January 26 2010, Golson was traded to the reigning World Champion New York Yankees. Now he finds himself in a heated competition, to become the left fielder for the Yankees, and a chance at regaining the old praise he recieved as a prospect in the Phillies organization. So far Golson has 10 at bats for the Yanks, this spring with 2 hits, 3 RBI, and one home run, a game winner that came in the top of the 9th inning against the Detroit Tigers the other day, giving the Yanks their 4th win of the spring. It is going to be interesting to see if Golson, makes the team with his immense talent of speed, or even better is the starting left fielder for the Yankees come April 4th in Boston, as the Yankees look to defend their title.
