Discussion: Oliver Perez

Oliver Perez who signed that 3 year deal prior to the 2009 season failed to start 15 games last year and has been really god awful this Spring and has given fans the reason not to believe in him. The stats below are his stats for the spring thus far:
W L ERA G IP K Walks
0 1 8.66 5 17.2 10 10
By the look at those stats you would think you are looking at a unproven Minor Leaguers Stats, well no your looking at an 8 year veterans stats. Since Perez arrived in 2006 he has only pitched one solid season which was in 2007 when he went 15-10 with an ERA of 3.56. Perez has grown from being a young fan favorite to being a player we wish the Mets never signed to an extension. So what should the Mets do with Oliver Perez? Well i think i have a solution, people may say oh well this is Spring some pitchers struggle in the Spring; WRONG! Perez has struggled since before his injury last year, and then in the minors when he was rehabbing. I think the Mets should send him down to work on some things, and not hurt the Mets in their rotation which i can bet he will do. So who do you call up? Nelson Figueroa? Pat Misch? Fernando Nieve? Bobby Parnell? Hisanori Takahashi? Those are some options but i guarntee you none of them will hurt the Mets like Perez will.
