The Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers 9-8 as Joba Chamberlain took the hill again and got roughed up in 2.1 innings. Joba cruised through the first two until the tigers got 6 consecutive base runners on resulting in a six run third inning knocking Joba out of the game. The big hit being a grand slam off the bat of Gerald Laird. Phil Hughes then came in and gave up only one run, a solo homer to Ryan Rayburn in 2/2.3 innings of work. Armando Galarraga pitched 2 innings giving up 2 earned runs in his spring training debut for the Tigers.

Offense

  • Former Tigers All-Star Curtis Granderson returned to his old Spring Training home and had two singles and a walk.
  • Mark Texiera said hello to old teamate Phil Coke in the third inning, sending a Tex- Message over the left field wall, his first of the spring.
  • The Hero today was ex Ranger Greg Golson as he blasted a two run homer off Phil Dumatrait in the top of the ninth inning gave the Yankees the victory.
