Daniel Murphy has sprained MCL

In a news conference, Mets GM Omar Minaya said Daniel Murphy has a sprained MCL, and could miss 2-6 weeks to start the season. In addition, Murphy will start the season on the DL. Mike Jacobs is the leading candidate for the Opening Day first base job, with Frank Catalantto & Chris Carter fighting for the final bench spot on the 2010 Opening Day roster. Minaya also said Mets 1st base prospect Ike Davis is likely to start the season in triple A Buffalo.
This is a big blow to our team, because if Murphy could of been like he was in the 2nd half last year we would have another very good bat. See this is the same for the Jose Reyes situation, if i can't have my starters ( Reyes, Murphy ), i would really like to see Ruben Tejada & Ike Davis. Theres no hurt in having Ike Davis start the season as the firstbase man and go from there. Who knows Ike could really turn into something during Murphys time out & turn into a real threat in the lineup.
