Question: Chris Carter or Mike Jacobs?

Now with Daniel Murphy set to make his first stint on the DL with a sprained MCL it makes you wonder is it a 1 man race who starts Opening Day, I think not. Omar Minaya did not exactly say who will be starting on Monday, but i think it is a 2 man race between Mike Jacobs & Chris Carter. Let's start with the leading candidate being Mike Jacobs. Jacobs is a kind of guy that will strike out or hit a bomb like a Dave Kingman type of player. He plays a solid first base, but heading back to the offensive perspective, does Jerry Manuel really want Jacobs starting with other players that strike out often such as Jason Bay and Jeff Francoeur. At the age of 29, Jacobs has been working with Keith Hernandez on his defense and has been working with Howard Johnson to shorten up his swing, and see lefties better. Now speaking of Chris Carter, Carter to me is like Daniel Murphy, a guy who works so hard to get an opportunity and i think the time has come for Carter. Carter plays a solid first base along with having the ability to play the corner out field positions, which is the only reason why i could see Carter being on the bench. This spring in 15 games he has a .407 average with 4 homeruns and 9 RBIS in 27 at bats. The 27 year old carter just seems ready to make an impact and i think he can really surprise people and show the youth the Mets really have. If it was my call, i would have Chris Carter start off Mike Jacobs. Jacobs to me seems like Matt Stairs a guy who can come off the bench and hit a big clutch homerun when needed and start a few games. Where as at the age of 27 Carter just seems complete and ready to show was he has.
